Compliance

Legal, Regulatory, and
Compliance

StoryLine follows COPPA principles for parental consent, applies FERPA-aligned practices appropriate for early childhood settings, and adheres to state childcare privacy guidelines that vary by jurisdiction. No personal information is collected, used, or retained beyond what is legally permitted and authorized by guardians.

Nothing is shared without prior consent

Privacy Built on Consent and Control

StoryLine is designed with a privacy-first approach that gives schools and educators clear control over classroom
content, with sharing decisions guided by teacher review and institutional policies.

  • Teacher-First Review System

No images or videos are shared automatically. All content is reviewed, edited, and approved by teachers,
giving centers full control over privacy.

  • No Live-Streaming

StoryLine does not offer live streaming. Videos are view-only, used for developmental insight, and accessible only to approved users. Downloads are not allowed externally.

  • Minimal Exposure Capturing

Our AI captures only the essential moments needed to understand a child's behavior. Videos use a vertical frame to limit background visibility.

  • Insights on Accumulated Data

StoryLine focuses on long-term developmental insight with child-specific reports, not real-time sharing. No information about other children is shared without prior consent.

Data Privacy & Security FAQ

  • Yes. Participation in StoryLine is completely your choice.
No child’s data is collected, stored, or analyzed without prior consent, and you can change your decision at any time.

  • No. We do not sell, rent, or share your child’s personal information or de-identified research data with any third parties for commercial purposes,
advertising, or AI training by external entities.

  • Only authorized directors, teachers, and the child’s parents may access data through secure login. Playtag employees cannot view classroom footage unless a school requests technical support and grants temporary, logged access. All system access is authenticated, logged for 12+ months, and protected by strict role-based permissions to ensure no unauthorized individual can view data.

  • We store video for as little time as possible:

    • Local NAS (in the classroom): Up to 30 days
    • Cloud (AWS): Deleted automatically within 48 hours after AI analysis
    • No video clips are stored long-term unless a parent or teacher explicitly saves a moment through our app.

This short retention window minimizes risk and ensures Playtag never builds unnecessary archives of children.

  • No. Your child’s data is never used for AI training without your explicit consent. StoryLine is a 100% opt-in service—if a caregiver does not sign the consent form, no data is collected, stored, or analyzed. If you do provide consent, we will remove all personal identifiers and retain only de-identified data for a period of 3 years for internal research and development purposes.

  • Yes. Your consent is completely voluntary.

You may refuse or withdraw it at any time without affecting your child’s enrollment or access to non-AI services. If you withdraw consent, we will immediately stop collecting new data and securely delete existing data where required by law.

  • If you opt out:

    • Your child is not identified, tracked, or analyzed
    • No data is linked to your child’s name or identity
    • No individual reports or insights are created for your child

Your child may still appear incidentally in background classroom footage, since cameras capture the classroom as a whole. However, no data or analysis is generated about your child.
