Closed
Camera Network

Our cameras run on a private, isolated network, never exposed to the open internet. Camera access and control is managed through a single on-site system installed locally.

Secure
On-site NAS Storage

All raw video data is stored on a secure PlayLens NAS installed locally inside your classroom. The system uses encrypted storage and can only be accessed through VPN-authenticated connections, ensuring your data stays protected on-site.

Encrypted
Data Transmission

Data uploaded from your classroom to the cloud is protected using HTTPS and TLS encryption, the same standard used by online banking, ensuring it cannot be read or intercepted during transfer to Amazon Web Services.

Access to StoryLine is limited to authorized users only with mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA). Shared accounts are not allowed, all access activity is recorded, and permissions are immediately removed when user roles change.

Real-time Detection and
Incident Response

StoryLine continuously monitors system operations to identify issues or failures as they occur. When an issue is detected, alerts are sent immediately to our team for assessment and corrective action.

Legal, Regulatory, and
Compliance

StoryLine follows COPPA principles for parental consent, applies FERPA-aligned practices appropriate for early childhood settings, and adheres to state childcare privacy guidelines that vary by jurisdiction. No personal information is collected, used, or retained beyond what is legally permitted and authorized by guardians.

Nothing Is Shared Without Prior Consent

Privacy Built on Consent and Control

StoryLine is designed with a privacy-first approach that gives schools and educators clear control over classroom content, review decisions, and what gets shared with families.

01

Teacher-First Review System

No images or videos are shared automatically. Content is reviewed, edited, and approved by educators before it reaches families.

02

No Live Streaming

StoryLine is focused on developmental insight, not broadcast viewing. Videos are view-only and accessible only to approved users.

03

Minimal Exposure Capturing

The system captures only the moments needed to understand behavior, helping limit unnecessary background visibility and over-collection.

04

Insights on Accumulated Data

StoryLine emphasizes long-term developmental patterns instead of real-time sharing, with child-specific insight guided by consent and policy.

FAQ

Data Privacy & Security FAQ

Clear answers to the most common questions from schools, educators, and families about participation, retention, access, and consent.

1Can I choose whether my child participates in StoryLine?

Yes. Participation is completely optional. No child data is collected, stored, or analyzed without prior consent, and that decision can be changed at any time.

2Do you sell or share a child’s data with third parties?

No. StoryLine does not sell, rent, or share a child’s personal information or de-identified research data with third parties for commercial purposes, advertising, or outside AI training.

3Who can access classroom video or behavioral data?

Only authorized directors, teachers, and approved parents can access data through secure login. Internal access is limited, temporary when needed, and logged.

4How long are video recordings kept?

StoryLine is designed to keep video only as long as operationally necessary and to reduce unnecessary archival risk.

  • Local classroom storage is short-term
  • Cloud processing storage is limited and automatically cleared after analysis
  • Long-term saving happens only when a teacher or parent explicitly chooses to keep a moment
5Does StoryLine use children’s data to train AI models?

Not without explicit consent. The service is opt-in, and any research use requires de-identification and controlled internal handling.

6Can consent be withdrawn later?

Yes. Consent is voluntary and can be refused or withdrawn at any time without affecting access to non-AI services. When consent changes, collection stops and applicable stored data can be deleted according to policy and law.

7If a family opts out, what happens to their child’s data?

If a child is opted out, no individual tracking, analysis, or child-linked report is created. Because classroom cameras capture shared spaces, incidental background appearance may still occur, but no child-specific analysis is produced.
